ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday paid tribute to Major Syed Mueed Abbas Shah, who embraced martyrdom in the fight against Khawariji extremism, declaring that Pakistan will “inevitably prevail” in this battle.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting, the premier acknowledged the armed forces’ sacrifices in counter-terrorism operations while shifting focus to domestic and regional developments.
PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude to coalition partners for their support in finalising the federal budget, urging lawmakers to ensure its smooth parliamentary approval. “This budget reflects our collective hard work,” he stated. He also revealed that Iran had extended unprecedented gratitude to Pakistan for its role in brokering a ceasefire with Israel. “For the first time in history, Iran has thanked Pakistan’s political and military leadership, as well as its people,” he said.

He also referred to few developments including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s productive 90-minute meeting with Iranian FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Istanbul, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s mediating role, including direct contact with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and lastly US President Donald Trump facilitating the truce after being “impressed” by Pakistan’s military leadership. PM Shehbaz also condemned the bombing of bases in Qatar.
The PM also spoke about the enhanced security measures for Muharram processions nationwide. “We must foster interfaith harmony to maintain peace during sacred events,” he directed authorities.
