PM demands immediate release of Gaza Flotilla volunteers – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the Israeli attack on the Samud Gaza flotilla, which carried over 450 humanitarian workers from 44 countries.

In a post on X, he urged the immediate release of all volunteers detained by Israeli forces.

The Prime Minister said the only “crime” of these workers was delivering aid to the oppressed people of Palestine.

He termed the assault an act of barbarity and stressed that such actions must come to an end.

Shehbaz Sharif said peace should be given a chance and humanitarian assistance must reach those in need.

The Israeli military has intercepted at least 13 vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla as they sailed in international waters towards Gaza.

According to reports, the navy detained several activists on board, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.

The activist group said more than 201 people from 37 countries were aboard the seized boats. These included 30 participants from Spain, 22 from Italy, 21 from Turkiye and 12 from Malaysia.

Flotilla spokesperson Saif Abukeshek stated that about 30 ships are still attempting to evade Israeli forces and “fighting their way” to reach Gaza.

The interception sparked demonstrations in several cities worldwide, including Ankara, Mexico City, Bogota, Buenos Aires and Madrid.
