ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declared a four-day public holidays for Eidul Azha, starting Friday, June 6, and ending Monday, June 9.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the holiday schedule. All government and private offices, schools, colleges, and banks will remain closed during this period.

The decision comes after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced the sighting of the Zilhaj moon on May 27. Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed that Eidul Azha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7.

Official sources say the Cabinet Division will soon issue a formal notification regarding public holidays for Eidul Azha.

The extended break will give people across Pakistan a chance to spend time with their families and celebrate the religious festival without work-related interruptions.

Eidul Azha, one of the two major Islamic festivals, honours the steadfast faith of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was ready to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s will.

A key ritual of the festival is Qurbani — the sacrificial slaughter of animals like cows, goats, sheep, or camels in line with Islamic principles.

The meat is shared among family, relatives, and the less fortunate, symbolising compassion, generosity, and the true essence of Eid.
