ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Armed Forces delivered a clear message to the neighbouring interim government of Taliban, saying that Pakistan will destroy terrorists’ sanctuaries in Afghanistan if the Afghan Taliban retaliate with attacks in the Pakistani provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The armed forces warned that“You (Taliban) may impress other countries with your acts of bravery, but we already know the strength you have — both inside and out.”
Referring to the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the armed forces said, “Even the Soviets, who were defeated in Afghanistan, would not have been so had America not supported you.”
“Reminding of the past, the armed forces said, how can they forget the Battle of Tora Bora fought in 2001, where they fled in panic?” the statement added.
Additionally, Pakistan warned that Afghan refugees would be expelled and “the Afghan government can now send them to India.”
Earlier in the day, more than 200 Afghan Taliban and the terrorists they sponsor were killed as Pakistan exercised its right to self-defence after an unprovoked attack — an operation that coincided with Afghan Interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR warned the Afghan interim government that “Pakistan will continue to exercise its right to defend its people by persistent neutralization of terror targets,” if it fails to act against terrorist organisations operating from Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the ISPR said the latest episode also vindicated “Pakistan’s long-standing position that the [Afghan] Taliban government is actively facilitating the terrorists.”
