LAHORE: A fresh spell of monsoon rains is set to begin in Punjab from July 5 (Saturday) and will continue till July 10, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
In view of the new spell, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to all district administrations across the province, directing them to remain on high alert.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, rainfall is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad. Rain has also been forecast for Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana, Chiniot, and Faisalabad.
Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected in Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali. In South Punjab, rain is likely in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, and Lodhran from July 6 to 8. Rain with thunder is also expected in Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Layyah.
According to PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, from July 7 onwards, a significant rise in water levels is expected in major rivers, which could lead to flood-like situations in adjacent streams, hill torrents, and seasonal nullahs.

There is also a risk of urban flooding in northern and central Punjab due to heavy downpours. The PDMA has issued advance warnings to all relevant departments and instructed WASA, Rescue 1122, and other emergency services to remain on alert.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rains and follow local authorities’ guidelines for safety.
