NDMA issues alert as three rain systems set to hit Pakistan – HUM News


ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert as three rain-bearing systems are expected to enter Pakistan simultaneously from today till August 30.

According to NDMA, these systems could trigger heavy rains across the country, posing serious risks of urban flooding and landslides.

The authority warned that low-lying areas in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir may experience flooding, while mountainous regions including Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan face a high risk of landslides.

Multiple districts of Sindh and Balochistan may witness heavy rainfall between August 27 and 30.

According to NDMA, Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar are expected to receive rain during this period. Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Dadu, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, and Larkana have also been included in the alert.

Districts like Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Shaheed Benazirabad may face similar weather conditions.

In Balochistan, heavy rains are forecast for Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Qalat, Gwadar, Turbat, Kech, and Panjgur, while Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, and Loralai could also see downpours. Barkhan, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, and Kohlu may witness intermittent showers.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s districts including Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Abbottabad, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Swabi have been warned of flash floods in local streams.

NDMA said river flows at Taunsa, Guddu, and Kalabagh could rise significantly, endangering nearby settlements. Authorities have been instructed to stay on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
