ISLAMABAD: The Islamic year 1447 Hijri is expected to begin on Friday, June 27, as astronomers believe the Muharram moon is unlikely to be sighted on Tuesday, June 25.
According to astronomical experts, the new moon will be born on June 25 at 3:31pm Pakistan time.
However, due to low visibility, especially in South Asia and the Middle East, it is unlikely to be seen with the naked eye that evening. Moon sighting chances improve significantly for the next day, Wednesday, June 26.
Monday weather forecast: hot weather, followed by thundershowers
This increases the likelihood that Muharram 1 will fall on Friday, June 27 in Pakistan and many other countries.
If this timeline is confirmed, Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, would be observed on Sunday, July 6.
Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is expected to meet on June 26 to verify moon sighting reports and officially declare the beginning of the new Islamic year.
