LHC imposes Rs 10,000 fine for washing cars at home


LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) emphasising water conservation, has ordered a Rs 10,000 fine for those washing their cars at home.

LHC Justice Shahid Kareem was hearing cases related to smog elimination and a petition filed by citizen Haroon Farooq.

During the hearing, Member Judicial Commission Hina Jilani presented a report highlighting the depletion of underground water reserves.

Justice Kareem emphasized the need for water conservation laws, stating that stopping car washing at home could help conserve a significant amount of water.

He directed that this practice be strictly prohibited and instructed authorities to put up banners and posters across the city to raise public awareness.

The court also ordered a Rs 10,000 fine for violators and assigned the Dolphin Force to monitor compliance.

Justice Kareem further noted that water scarcity is not just a problem in Lahore but affects the entire province. However, he appreciated the government’s efforts in addressing this critical issue.
