LAHORE: The Lahore police have reported a significant drop in major crimes during the first half of 2025, attributing the decrease to improved policing strategies, targeted patrols, and the use of modern technology.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz – during her budget speech on June 27 – had congratulated the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar and his team for controlling crime rate in the province.
“Law and order situation has gradually improved with the establishment of the crime control department (CCD),” she said, adding that Rs200 billion has been allocated for the department.
According to official data, 12,484 serious crimes were reported from January to June this year, compared to 24,445 during the same period in 2024 and 39,260 in 2023.
Robbery and street crime cases also declined notably. In 2025, 2,443 robbery cases were reported, a sharp decrease from 7,933 in 2024 and 23,797 in 2023. Cases involving murder during robbery dropped to just 4 this year, down from 10 last year and 13 in 2023.
Motorbike thefts stood at 6,258 in the first six months of 2025, compared to 9,766 in 2024 and 14,989 in 2023. Car theft cases fell to 637 from 1,128 and 1,441 in the previous two years, respectively.

Incidents of snatched motorbikes also declined, with 328 cases reported in 2025 so far, down from 774 last year and 846 in 2023. Car snatching cases fell to just 15 this year, compared to 23 in 2024 and 91 in 2023.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran credited the drop in crime to improved planning, targeted patrols in high-risk areas across 35 police stations, and coordination with the CCD and Safe City Project.
“We identified crime hotspots, increased patrolling, and improved coordination with intelligence units. We’re also upgrading surveillance and using data-driven operations to make the city safer for residents.”
