Lahore schools open with new timings amid high smog alert – HUM News


LAHORE: Schools in Lahore on Monday opened with new timings as the provincial city has once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities

According to recent data collected Monday morning, Lahore’s AQI hit 541, with Model Town recording 680 and Ring Road at 590. In Johar Town, it stood at 473, while DHA Phase 8 recorded an alarming 708.

Smog levels also spiked in Shimla Pahari at 569 and Thokar Niaz Baig at 475.

Polluted air from India pushes Lahore’s air quality to dangerous levels

Due to the severe air quality, the Punjab School Education Department had announced new school timings in Lahore.

 Starting today, the schools in Lahore opened at new timings with classes beginning at 8:45 a.m. These adjusted hours will remain in effect until January 31.

PEPA has also advised citizens to limit outdoor activities, especially exercise, and to keep doors and windows shut to minimise air pollution intake. “Wear a mask, check your vehicle’s fitness, and take necessary precautions,” the notification urged.

The change follows recommendations from the Punjab Environment Department aimed at safeguarding public health amidst rising pollution levels.
