Lahore named Economic Cooperation Organization’s ‘Tourism Capital’ for 2027 – HUM News


LAHORE: The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) has awarded Pakistan and Punjab with a special honour by naming Lahore its ‘Tourism Capital’ for the year 2017. A 25-member delegation from the ECO, comprising ten member states, will begin its visit to Lahore starting April 13.

The official announcement declaring Lahore as the ‘ECO Capital of Tourism’ will be made during this visit. Ambassadors from ECO are arriving in Lahore at the invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Each year, the ECO selects one city from among its ten member countries for this unique distinction and this time Lahore is being honoured with this title in recognition of its rich historical, cultural, and tourism heritage.

Year-round Khunjerab Pass opening boosts cross-border tourism

A meeting of the ECO’s Permanent Representatives Council will be held at the Civil Secretariat, hosted by the Punjab Chief Minister.

The ECO which was founded in 1964 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey, and was earlier called Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD). The member nations include Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
