Kurram crisis rooted in sectarian conflict with foreign involvement: Gandapur


WEB DESK: Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has stated that both internal and external forces are at play with regards to the worsening situation in Kurram valley. He dubbed the matter as a sectarian issue stressing that the crisis goes back 130 years.

“Weapons are being supplied to Kurram and all miscreants and terrorists will be brought to justice. The problem is Kurram valley is the roots are sectarian and foreign elements are involved. Those responsible for the violence will not be spared,” he said.

While speaking at an event, Gandapur also said that medicine and other supplies are being provided to the inhabitants of Kurram valley.

Four villages to be evacuated

The KP government has also decided to take strict action against the miscreants involved in the firing incident on convoys in Lower Kurram. The provincial government has also decided to evacuate four villages of Kurram to protect the locals and prevent any public loss of life during the operation. As per details, the villages of Ucheat, Mandori, Dadkamar and Bagan in Kurram will be evacuated.

Kurram convoy attacked again, driver injured, truck looted

According to the spokesperson of the KP government, a high-level meeting was held on the situation in Kurram district. In the meeting, it was decided to take strictest action against the elements involved in the incident in Lower Kurram yesterday.

It was also decided during the meeting to evacuate the four villages of Ucheat, Mandori, Dadkamar and Bagan in Lower Kurram. The decision to evacuate these villages is to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the people so that they do not suffer any harm. Search operations will be conducted after evacuating these villages.

The provincial government has decided to put those involved in incidents against the state in Kurram in Schedule IV and to set a price on the heads of those responsible for the unrest in Kurram and the masterminds behind the violence.

Only yesterday, nine people, including five security personnel, a driver, a passerby, and two attackers lost their lives when a convoy taking essential items to Parachinar was attacked by unknown armed assailants. More than 20 people sustained injuries, among them five security personnel and five drivers.

The assault occurred in multiple areas of Lower Kurram, including Mandori, Ochat, Charkhel, and Bagan. The driver and security personnel were killed on the spot. In response to the attack, gunship helicopters carried out shelling in the area.

According to police, after intercepting the convoy of 19 trucks, the attackers looted the vehicles before setting them on fire. In total, approximately 35 trucks were looted.
