PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has been summoned to meet at 10 am on October 13 to elect a new chief minister.
According to an official notification issued by the KP Assembly Secretariat, the new session has been scheduled after the previous sitting was adjourned until 2 pm on October 20.
The notification stated that the upcoming session will include the election of the new leader of the house.
Separately, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has begun reaching out to other political parties to secure support for its candidate for the chief minister slot.
A PTI delegation visited the JUI-F headquarters and met with party leaders, seeking their backing for the newly nominated chief minister Sohail Afridi.
Earlier Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed that he has received the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur as chief minister.
A day after Ali Amin Gandapur formally resigned as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, the Governor House had denied receiving his resignation.
The KP Chief Minister’s Secretariat had said, “We sent the resignation to the Governor House yesterday. Now, further action on the resignation is the Governor House’s responsibility.”
On Saturday, Gandapur also shared a hard-written resignation on Facebook stating a new resignation has been submitted to the KP governor.
A spokesperson for the KP Governor House confirmed the development, saying that the chief minister’s formal resignation was received at around 2:30 pm on Saturday.
The spokesperson said the resignation would be reviewed in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and the entire process would be carried out transparently.
Ali Amin Gandapur had earlier resigned after which the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had nominated Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister.
Following the delay in accepting the resignation, PTI’s leadership decided to remove Gandapur through a no-confidence motion in the provincial assembly and elect a new chief minister.
Earlier speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja alleged attempts were under way to block a constitutional change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by unconstitutional means and that the party was being intimidated.
