Karachi water supply resumes after four days – HUM News

KARACHI: Water supply to Karachi has resumed after four days as K-Electric finally restores complete power supply to the Dhabeji pumping station, a key water supply source for the city.

According to a spokesperson, the restoration work was completed at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1.

A spokesperson for the Water Corporation said that following the restoration of electricity, the process of water supply to the city has returned to normal.

The Water Corporation revealed that due to the power outage, the city faced a shortage of around 360 million gallons of water, which receives only around 650 MGD against a daily requirement of 1,250 MGD..

The crisis began when power was cut on Thursday night, June 26, at 10:00 PM, causing the pumping station to shut down completely.

The spokesperson added that the lack of electricity caused severe problems for the Water Corporation in distributing water, but the situation has now improved.

A major power breakdown at the pumping station four days ago had led to a severe water crisis in the city, leaving almost every locality with dry taps.

K-Electric attributed the outage to an underground cable fault, stating that repair efforts were hindered by accumulated rainwater. They said power would be restored once the water had drained.

The KWSC spokesperson said that the fault, which occurred at 10pm on June 26, remained unresolved and had caused two main water pumps at the K-III Pumping House to cease operations.

Affected localities include Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Federal B Area, Malir, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, PIB Colony, Mehmoodabad, Lines Area, the Old City Area, DHA, and Clifton.
