Judicial commission approves 9 additional judges for LHC, sources say


ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission has agreed on the appointment of nine additional judges for the Lahore High Court (LHC) during its meeting held here on Thursday, sources claimed.

According to sources, the meeting, after thoroughly reviewing the candidates’ credentials before making recommendations for appointment, agreed on Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Malik Waqar Haider Awan, and Sardar Akbar Ali. 

Additionally, Malik Javed Iqbal Wains, Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Muhammad Jawad Zafar, and Khalid Ishaq have also been approved. 

Sources further revealed that the names of Malik Muhammad Owais Khalid and Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood have also been finalised for appointment to the LHC.

The commission met under the chair of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to deliberate the appointment of 10 additional judges for the LHC. 

According to sources, the commission received 49 nominations, including four district and sessions judges and 45 senior lawyers. 

The district and sessions judges under consideration were Qaiser Nazir Butt, Muhammad Akmal Khan, Jazeela Aslam, and Abher Gul Khan. 

Among the senior lawyers were Adnan Shuja Butt, Ayan Tariq Bhutta, Ambreen Anwar Raja, Asad Mehmood Abbasi, Asma Hamid, Bushra Qamar, Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Sultan Mahmood, and Ghulam Sarwar. 

Other prominent names included Haider Rasool Mirza, Haris Azmat, Haseeb Shakoor Paracha, Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Humaan Ejaz Zaman, Khalid Ishaq, Malik Javed Iqbal, Malik Muhammad Owais Khalid, Malik Waqar Haider Awan, Mian Bilal Basheer, Mughees Aslam Malik, and Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan. 

Further names under consideration were Muhammad Jawad Zafar, Muhammad Naveed Farhan, Nawaz Ali Pirzada, Sajid Khan Tanoli, Saqib Jelani, Muhammad Zubair Khalid, Munawar-ul-Islam, Muqtadir Akhtar Shabbir, Mushtaq Ahmed Mehal, Najaf Mazmal Khan, Naveed Ahmed Khawaja, Qadir Bakhsh, Qasim Ali Chauhan, Rafi Zeeshan Javed Altaf, Rana Shamshad Khan, Rizwan Akhtar Awan, Sabahat Rizvi, Salman Ahmed, Samia Khalid, Sardar Akbar Ali, Shighan Ejaz, Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Intikhab Hussain Shah, and Usman Akram Sahi.
