ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Saturday, approved the proposed Judicial Commission (Appointment of Judges) Rules 2024 with certain amendments.
According to a press release issued by the apex court, the approval was made during a session of JCP chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, who is also Chairman of the JCP.
The session thoroughly reviewed the draft of the rules and made the decision after considering the “public feedback received on the proposed Rules, and after extensive deliberations,” the press release said.
Another session was held under the chair of Justice Yahya Afridi while the agenda of these meetings were the consideration of the proposed Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Appointment of Judges) Rules 2024 and the extension of the period of nomination of Judges to the Constitutional Benches of the Supreme Court.
In the second meeting, the JCP (Supreme Court) approved by majority an extension in the period of the already nominated judges to the Constitutional Benches of the Supreme Court, for a period of six months.
The first meeting was attended Supreme Court Judges Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar (through Video link), Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.
Chief justices and senior puisne judges of provincial high courts and Islamabad High court were also in attendance.

Moreover, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmad, MNA Barrister Ali Gohar, MNA Barrister Ali Zafar, Senator Farooq Hamid Naek, Senator Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, nominee of the Speaker National Assembly Sarfraz Bugti, provincial law ministers, and bar councils members also attended the meeting.
Additionally, the second meeting was attended by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar (through Video link), Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Mansoor Usman Awan, MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmad, MNA Barrister Ali Gohar, MNA Barrister Ali Zafar, Senator Farooq Hamid Naek, Senator Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, nominee of the Speaker National Assembly, and ASC Akhtar Hussain.
