JAAC resorts to violence after strike call failure in AJK – HUM News

MUZAFFARABAD: People in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday rejected the strike call given by Joint Awami Action Committee after which armed miscreants associated with the organisation resorted to violence.

During the violent protests by the JAAC members, they started torturing peaceful citizens, injuring several of them, sources said.

Given the strike call didn’t produce any response from the Kashmiri people, the JAAC members started to act violently, the sources said, adding that they openly displayed arms to create fear among the locals in the guise of peaceful protest.

The sources said the wounded citizens were shifted to hospitals and vowed that the miscreants involved in violence would be brought to justice through legal means.

Earlier, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said political system was working in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and wondered how the state would pay salaries and provide facilities with collecting taxes.

He was answering a question about the violence-based politics that JAAC is pursuing in AJK.

Separately, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq In an interview to HUM News explained how JAAC — a so-called civil society organisation — is exploiting the situation despite that the fact only two of their demands could not be accepted.

To camouflage their real motives, JAAC says large commercial or industrial electricity consumers too should be treated as domestic consumers and the reserved seats for refugees — refugee seats — in the AJK Legislative Assembly should be discarded which is tantamount to declaring the international Kashmir dispute as a local issue.

It’s a developing story. Details to follow.
