ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has unveiled a special traffic plan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, scheduled to take place from October 14 to 16, 2024, in the federal capital.
Over 585 officers will be deployed to manage traffic professionally during the event, ensuring minimal disruption for the public and to guide citizens through alternative routes.
Key roads, including from Malpur to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri to Serena Hotel, will be closed. Similarly, traffic from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur will be suspended, as well as routes from Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena.
To mitigate disruptions, alternative routes have been designated.
Travelers from Murree and Bhara Kahu heading towards Rawalpindi are advised to use Korang Road via Bani Gala, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, and Faizabad. Those coming from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu or Murree should opt for Park Road and Korang Road.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
Travelers from Murree and Bhara Kahu heading towards Rawalpindi are advised to use Korang Road via Bani Gala, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, and Faizabad.
Those coming from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu or Murree should opt for Park Road and Korang Road.
Other alternative routes include Chand Tara Chowk and Pak China Centre for Srinagar Highway to Murree and Bhara Kahu.
Heavy traffic heading from Peshawar to Lahore should use the Taxila Motorway, while those traveling from Lahore on GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be redirected to Chak Beli Road via Chakri Motorway.
Traffic from F-5, G-5, and G-6 sectors to Rawalpindi will be diverted through 9th Avenue.
Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted to the Taxila motorway and Tarnol Railway crossing, while traffic from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will use Chak Beli Road to reach Chakri motorway.
Additional diversions will affect sectors F-5, G-5, G-6, and Margalla Road to Rawalpindi, Faisal Avenue to Zero Point, Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi, and Rawalpindi to Islamabad.
The route between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk will be closed, with the service road serving as an alternative.
From October 14 to 16, 2024, heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad. Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, assures that traffic police officials will guide citizens and provide alternative routes.
Citizens can stay informed about traffic updates through FM Radio 92.4 and social media channels.
HEAVY TRAFFIC TO BE BANNED
For three days, 14th, 15th, and 16th October,no heavy traffic will be allowed into Islamabad.
Residents are urged to cooperate with traffic police and follow alternative routes.
Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfaraz Work assured that traffic police will be on-site to guide commuters, and citizens will be updated through FM Radio 92.4 and social media platforms.
