Imran Khan writes letter to army chief, urges for policy review – HUM News

RAWALPINDI:  Imran Khan has written a letter to Army Chief General Asim Munir, emphasising the need for urgent policy changes to bridge the growing rift between the public and the military, his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry revealed during a media briefing outside Adiala Jail.

According to Chaudhry, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder stressed that “the army belongs to the nation, not an individual,” and asserted that peace talks or PTI’s efforts to improve relations with the establishment upset the current government.

Chaudhry mentioned that Imran Khan highlighted six key points in the letter to army chief:

Rigged elections: Khan said that the February 8 polls were manipulated in collaboration with money launderers, leading to public mistrust.

Judicial control: He alleged that 26th constitutional amendment was made to influence the judiciary and protect election fraud and controversial cases.

Peca amendments: Khan criticised this “black law,” saying it imposed restrictions on social media and silenced dissenting voices, causing a $2 billion loss to the IT sector and jeopardising Pakistan’s GSP Plus status.

Misuse of institutions: He accused state institutions of being diverted from their actual duties to crush the PTI.

Khan also criticised delays in the £190 million reference decision, accusing the judiciary of favouring handpicked judges.

Continuing quoting Khan, Chaudhry said that police were barred from interrogating Bushra Bibi inside the jail by “unseen forces.” Imra Khan has called for a return to constitutional and legal norms to restore political and economic stability, he added.

He further said that as a former prime minister, Khan felt it his responsibility to highlight the nation’s challenges. He demanded a judicial commission to investigate incidents, including the firing on peaceful protesters, and urged for swift policy changes to safeguard Pakistan’s future.

Meanwhile, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar clarified that Imran Khan’s letter to army chief does not signal a shift in policy.

Speaking to the media, he said the letter outlines reasons for the growing rift between the military and the public. “Imran Khan has emphasised in the letter that this gap must not widen.”

Gohar said Imran Khan also highlighted alleged state terrorism against his party in the letter to the COAS.
