ISLAMABAD: The Federal government is planning to scrap the competitive examination system for Central Superior Services (CSS).
This is not the first time that such a proposal has made the headlines. Previously, when reforms were considered for the competitive examination, the Federal Public Service Comission (FPSC) introduced MCQ Based Preliminary Test (MPT).
However, this time the proposal includes separation of examinations, based on the type of civil service group, instead of a generic examination. According to a new report by a private TV channel, the Civil Service Reforms Committee sources said that a proposal has been finalised to replace the current CSS exam system.
CSS exams 2025 finally begin after court ruling
The new examination system will prioritise specialists in each field. The committee is yet to finalise the changes in the compensation and pension schemes. Once that is completed, the proposal will be submitted to the cabinet for approval.
The TV channel reported that the proposal includes a new cluster-based examination which focus professionals to enter technical services, instead of a generic examination system.
The current format of the CSS exam comprises of uniform set of tests, which means that depending on the score a finance graduate may be posted in foreign service and a graduate of international relations may end up in the audit department.
The new proposed mechanism comes with division of specific qualifications with regards to different departments.
