KARACHI: The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Karachi has resumed normal operations for non-EU citizens, nearly a week after suspending all services.
In an “important announcement” on Monday, the consulate confirmed that visa services and other operations for non-EU nationals are now fully functional.
“The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Karachi has resumed normal operation for non-EU-citizens.”, the statement read.
The move follows a temporary suspension announced on July 28 due to unspecified reasons. The consulate had cancelled all confirmed visa appointments for non-EU citizens and stated they would not be rescheduled.
Affected applicants were instructed to register again through the official appointment system.
The consulate has expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and assured that all services are now being provided as per standard procedures.
German Embassy online portal for visa applications
Earlier, on June 10, the German Embassy in Islamabad announced the launch of its Consular Services Portal for all employment visa categories, a major step aimed at expediting application processes and increasing the number of visas issued.
The portal, available at digital.diplo.de, serves as the central platform for submitting online applications for skilled employment, EU Blue Card, Opportunity Card, self-employment, and degree recognition.
The digital application system officially opened for submissions on 16 June 2025.
“Applicants are now required to complete an online questionnaire and upload all necessary documents directly to the portal,” the embassy stated. “This will streamline procedures at the Embassy and help process more applications efficiently.”
After launching the online portal, the embassy had closed and deleted all existing waiting lists for employment visa appointments . However, those who had already received an appointment were allowed to attend it as scheduled under the previous system.
The German embassy also noted that additional visa categories will be moved to the portal in the coming months as part of efforts to digitise and improve consular services for Pakistani applicants.
