RAWALPINDI: Funeral prayers were offered for the 12 martyrs, who sacrificed their lives while fighting the recent aggression by the Afghan Taliban and the associated terrorists, on Monday, said the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

These brave soldiers stood against the terrorists along the Pak-Afghan border when Pakistan came under attack on the night between Oct 11 and 12.

A total of 23 soldiers gave their lives for their motherland while 29 others sustained injuries.

However, Pakistan managed to eliminate more than 200 Afghan Taliban and their affiliates during the retaliatory action that saw the armed forces pounding their camps and terrorist training centres inside Afghanistan.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and other federal cabinet members, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and top civil and military officials were among those attending the funeral prayers at Chaklala Garrison in Rawalpindi, the ISPR said.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Asif vowed to defend every conspiracy with the assistance of people and said the nation was indebted to the martyrs.

“People of Pakistan are indebted to the ultimate sacrifice of these heroes who laid down their lives while defending territorial integrity of Pakistan against the cowardly and treacherous aggression of Taliban regime and Indian-sponsored terrorist proxies operating from inside Afghan soil”.

He added that the “Armed Forces of Pakistan remain resolute to thwart any aggression and conspiracy against Pakistan with full support of the nation.”

BEGGING FOR CEASEFIRE JUST LIKE MODI

On Sunday, the ISPR shared the details to losses suffered by Pakistan as well as the precise strikes carried out inside Pakistan that made the enemies run away from their position.

It also warned the Afghan Taliban regime that “Pakistan will continue to exercise its right to defend its people by persistent neutralization of terror targets,” if it fails to act against the terrorist organisations operating from Afghanistan.

Separately, Pakistan through a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made it clear on Sunday that “any further provocations would be met with an unwavering and befitting response”.

On the other hand, Pakistan also expressed the hope that Afghanistan would soon get a “representative government”.

“We also hope that one day, the Afghan people would be emancipated and they would be governed by a true representative government.”

Earlier, the Afghan Taliban along with the members of other terrorist outfits they are housing in Afghanistan attacked Pakistan at multiple points along the border as their interim foreign minister is in India to forge friendship with the Hindu nationalist BJP government.

However, the swift and effective response meant the Afghan Taliban regime had to rush to seek an immediate ceasefire just like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did on the morning of May 10 earlier this year. For this purpose, they tried to involve two Gulf States.
