FO, US embassy deny knowledge of Trump’s Pakistan visit – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office and US Embassy in Islamabad have both denied having any knowledge of US President Donald Trump’s expected visit to Pakistan in September.

Two local television news channels reported earlier in the day citing “sources familiar with the matter” that President Trump is expected to visit Pakistan in September.

Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said he was not aware of Trump’s expected visit, as reported by local news channels.

Similarly, a US embassy spokesperson in Islamabad told Reuters, “We have nothing to announce,” and said that the White House might be able to provide confirmation on the president’s schedule.

Azaz Syed, the reporter who broke the news on GEO, has also apologised for misreporting that President Trump would visit Pakistan in September.

“Today, I feel deeply embarrassed to admit that I misreported the date related to U.S. President Donald Trump — the information I shared was premature and not yet final,” he said in an X post.

Had it been confirmed, the visit would have been be the first by a US president since nearly two decades ago, when President George W Bush visited Pakistan in 2006.

The two TV news channels said that Trump would also visit India after arriving in Islamabad in September.

US-Pakistan relations saw a major boost when Trump hosted Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House last month in an unprecedented meeting.

Pakistan’s information ministry didn’t respond to a Reuters request for a comment.
