LAHORE: Police have registered an FIR against the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) leadership and 300 protesters following their ongoing protest on Mall Road Lahore.
This development comes after a late-night police crackdown late last night, when law enforcement raided the protest camp at Charing Cross.
During that operation, over 70 demonstrators, including 52 women, were arrested.
Police had cleared tents, banners, and equipment, citing disruption to traffic and public movement.
Now, a fresh case has been filed at Civil Lines Police Station. According to the FIR, key names include Dr. Shoaib Niazi and other office-bearers of the Young Doctors Association.
The FIR states that 50 to 60 protesters attacked police personnel using sticks, knives, and scissors.
It also alleges that demonstrators vandalised government property, tore down barriers, and even ripped uniforms of police officials.
The situation escalated when protesters moved from Faisal Chowk toward Club Chowk in a charged manner. Police detained 26 more individuals during the clash.
Authorities have booked the protesters under 11 different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The GHA had been staging this sit-in for the last three weeks to demand better salaries, improved service structures, and facilities for doctors, nurses, and paramedics in public hospitals.
