ISLAMABAD: Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Rangers forces have been deployed in Islamabad ahead of the planned Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) protest on November 24.
The federal government has deployed the paramilitary forces under Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 at the district administration’s request.
These forces will remain present in Islamabad to maintain law and order.
PTI deploys state resources for its protest rally once again
The Chief Commissioner of Islamabad had written a letter to the Ministry of Interior on November 4, requesting the deployment of FC and Rangers.
Following this request, the Ministry of Interior approved the deployment, effective from November 7.
According to a written order from the Ministry of Interior, the Rangers and FC would be empowered under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 to assist the local police in maintaining law and order.
Meanwhile, containers are being placed on key Islamabad’s roads to block key routes. Containers have already been delivered to both sides of Islamabad Highway at the Zero Point Interchange and Srinagar Highway, and they are being positioned along the roadsides.
POLICE PREPARATIONS TO HANDLE PTI PROTEST
Islamabad police have intensified preparations to deal with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest. A large contingent of police has already been placed at D-Chowk, including SSP Operations Arsalan Shahzaib and SHOs from all police stations.
In addition, Islamabad police plan to conduct a foot march from Express Chowk to China Chowk. The march will include 1,400 officers and personnel from the Islamabad police force.
About 4000 Rangers and 5000 FC personnel, equipped with anti-riot gear will be stationed across Islamabad to ensure the peaceful conduct of the protest.
