ECP restores reserved seats in assemblies – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored all reserved seats in the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies in light of the Supreme Court’s recent decision.

According to the official announcement, the ECP has reinstated 19 reserved seats in the National Assembly, 25 in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 27 in the Punjab Assembly, and three in the Sindh Assembly, bringing the total number of restored reserved seats to 74. These reserved seats have now been given to other parties.

Following this development, the previous de-notification of PTI-backed successful candidates from the National and Provincial Assemblies has been rendered void. The ECP has officially withdrawn the notifications issued on July 24 and July 29, 2024.

As per the ECP’s new notification, PTI candidates’ de-notification from reserved seats in the National Assembly, Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies is now nullified.

The commission clarified that the latest decision is based on the Supreme Court’s judgment dated June 27, 2025.

The Supreme Court’s (SC) Constitutional Bench in its judgement on June 27 had dismissed the petitions filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the reserved seats case, declaring that the party will not be eligible for them in the national and provincial assemblies.

The ECP stated that the move to withdraw the previous notifications was made in compliance with the apex court’s ruling on review petitions.
