Earthquake tremors felt in Islamabad, surrounding region – HUM News


ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding regions experienced significant earthquake tremors in early hours of Wednesday, causing alarm.

The tremors were felt across a wide region, including Abbottabad, Peshawar, Shahqadar, Hassan Abdal, Deir Bala, Mansehra and Shangla and other nearby regions.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.6 and occurred at a depth of 121 kilometres. The epicentre of the quake was located in Baghlan, Afghanistan, known for its seismic activity.

Residents across northern Pakistan described the shaking as strong and unsettling. Reports from these regions indicated that the tremors were strong enough to cause buildings to sway, leading to widespread concern among residents.

Many took to social media to share their experiences and express their fears during the event.

The tremors even reached Rawalkot and surrounding areas in Azad Kashmir, where residents reported feeling the ground shake. Local authorities have been monitoring the situation closely, and there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties.

However, the potential for aftershocks remains a concern for those living in the affected areas.

Seismologists noted that earthquakes of this magnitude can lead to secondary tremors. Residents were thus advised to remain vigilant.
