Dancing, “unethical” activities banned in Punjab Colleges – HUM News

LAHORE: The Punjab Directorate of Public Instruction (Colleges) has imposed a ban on dancing and other “unethical” activities in public and private colleges.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Directorate of Public Instructions (Colleges), all “unethical and vulgar activities” in public and private colleges across the province have been banned.

A video of the gathering at the Khwaja Fareed Government Graduate College in Rahim Yar Khan went viral on social media, showing female students dancing while teachers and students showered them with cash. The footage also depicted the newly-appointed principal, along with faculty members and students, thoroughly enjoying the event.

According to an official notification, the Secretary of the Higher Education Department has expressed serious concern over funfairs, sports galas, and other events where students and teachers were reportedly seen dancing to Indian songs on stage and in classrooms.

“Authorities believe such activities do not align with the educational institutions’ purpose of imparting quality education,” according to the notification.

All directors and principals of both public and private colleges in Punjab have been instructed to ensure that colleges under their jurisdiction comply with this new rule of ban on dancing.

“Any violations will be met with strict action”, the notification warned.

The college administrations have been directed to encourage alternative forms of extracurricular activities which are aligned with cultural and educational values, said the notification.
