ISLAMABAD: Ahead of the National Assembly and Senate meetings, a special committee meeting is in progress in the parliament, chaired by Khursheed Shah.

Several key figures are present in the meeting, including Ishaq Dar, Omar Ayub, and Azam Nazir Tarar. Raja Parvez Ashraf, Barrister Gohar, Rana Tanveer, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza are also present. The committee is deliberating over the constitutional amendment that is likely to be tabled in the National Assembly session today.

Senate, NA meet today amid constitutional amendment speculations

Sources have revealed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has presented its proposals before the Constitutional Amendment Committee, urging the need for consensus.

PTI is pushing for the amendments to be passed only through agreement across parties, according to party officials. “If the government approves our amendment, then a consensus can be formed,” a PTI official said.

Meanwhile, another crucial meeting took place between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where the focus was also on consultations regarding the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2024. The developments surrounding this bill have sparked debates across party lines.

Former Speaker Asad Qaiser expressed his discontent with the proceedings, calling them “immoral and unconstitutional.” Reflecting on past events, he criticised secretive practices. “What is the purpose of this parliament if things are passed in the darkness of night?” he said.
