GILGIT: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Friday approved the establishment of a Daanish School in the Diamer-Astore Division of Gilgit-Baltistan to “provide quality education to underprivileged students”.
According to a statement issued by the G-B Information Department, the project is estimated to cost Rs 2.9 billion and will be constructed at Hosi Das, Bunji, a strategically located area at the confluence of Astore and Diamer districts.
The statement said the school would offer high-quality education to both boys and girls, with modern facilities available for both boarding and day scholars. “The initiative is specifically designed to provide free and quality education to students from impoverished and marginalized backgrounds,” reads the statement.
It said the institution would operate under a centralized administrative system, ensuring uniformity in curriculum, teaching methodologies, and resource distribution to maintain academic excellence and effective governance.

“The establishment of the Daanish School will help bridge the educational gap in the region, equipping students with modern knowledge and skills to enable them to pursue a brighter future,” the statement added.
In April last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to build Daanish Schools across all three divisions of Gilgit-Baltistan to impart world-class education and accommodation facilities to students from low-income groups.
In a meeting with G-B Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, the Prime Minister said the main aim behind the establishment of Daanish schools was to enable students from disadvantaged financial backgrounds to acquire quality education. He mentioned that the teachers at these schools are given market-based salaries.
