BYC leader Sammi Deen released from prison – HUM News

WEB DESK: Following the protest on Eid Day one at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Sammi Deen Baloch has been released on Tuesday. She has also been discharged from the case under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance after her participation in protests in late March.

An order issued by the Sindh Home Department stated that Sammi’s name was withdrawn from the MPO order, and Karachi Central Prison’s senior superintendent was ordered to release her.

Sammi’s release was confirmed by her sister Mehlab Deen Baloch who posted on X, thanking lawyer Jibran Nasir and all those who stood by them during this difficult time.

Sammi alongside five other were booked on March 24 for violating Section 144, which was imposed just before the protest was supposed to happen. Although a judicial magistrate had ordered the protesters to be released, Sammi was put behind bars soon again under MPO for 30 days.

The arrests drew criticism and concern from international bodies like UN and Amnesty International alongside activists, civil society leaders. The protest calling for the release of BYC organiser Dr Mahrung Baloch was disrupted by the authorities while the civil society is still calling for the release of the leader.
