QUETTA: The Balochistan government is set to present its budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 on June 17, following a parliamentary committee decision to revise the earlier schedule.
Balochistan Governor has summoned the provincial assembly session on the advice of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, according to official sources.
The upcoming budget will have a total volume exceeding Rs 1,055 billion, and is expected to be a surplus budget. A significant chunk of the expenditure, over Rs 830 billion, is proposed for non-development sectors, while more than Rs 220 billion will be earmarked for development projects.
As per budget proposals under discussion, the government plans to increase salaries of provincial employees by 10 per cent and pensions by 7 per cent, in line with the federal government’s recent decisions. Balochistan is likely to receive over Rs 740 billion in federal transfers, while income from gas royalties and the Saindak project could contribute up to Rs 70 billion.
In terms of sectoral allocations, education is expected to receive the highest priority with Rs 140 billion, followed by Rs 110 billion for law and order, and Rs 60 billion for health. Additional funds are likely to be reserved for key social sectors, including the provision of clean drinking water.
The budget is also expected to continue major public welfare initiatives such as the Benazir Scholarship Program, Green Bus Service, and the Sehat Card health insurance scheme.
The provincial finance minister will unveil the budget in the Balochistan Assembly on Tuesday.
