ASI behind major robber arrests gunned down in Karachi – HUM News

KARACHI: A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI), who was behind the arrest of several robbers, was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside his home near Malir Bin Qasim.

According to police, the victim was identified as Muhammad Khan Abro, who was posted at the Steel Town Police Station. He was attacked outside his residence by unidentified gunmen.

Police said the slain officer had previously survived a gun attack and was the complainant in a case registered at Steel Town police station against robbers he had arrested.

Five bullet casings were recovered from the crime scene. Abro was hit by three bullets — two in the chest and one in the head. His body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities.

SSP Malir Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, after visiting the crime scene, confirmed that ASI Abro was shot more than three times. He added that there were no CCTV cameras in the vicinity and that an investigation had been launched.

DSP Amir Hameed said the slain officer’s brothers also serve in the police force.

‘Slain ASI had been receiving death threats’

“According to initial information, Abro had been receiving death threats. Some time ago, he had arrested robbers during a police encounter and was also the complainant in the FIR related to that encounter,” DSP Hameed said.

Relatives told police that a case had been registered against ASI Abro at Steel Town just a day earlier. After securing bail from court on Monday, he was returning home with his brother Javed Abro when unidentified gunmen opened fire as he stepped out of the car.

The slain officer leaves behind four children and a widow. His eldest son is serving in a law enforcement agency and is currently posted in Gilgit.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over Abro’s killing. He directed the Sindh Police Inspector General to submit a detailed report and ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits.
