Anti-speeding campaign on motorways; 54 drivers under fire – HUM News


WEB DESK: The Motorway Police (MP) has launched a crackdown against speeding drivers, as part of the recent campaign to curb overspeeding. So far, action has been taken against 54 drivers, MP spokesperson said.

The crackdown has been launched on M-3, M-2, M-4, M-5 and Lahore-Sialkot motorways, the spokesperson added.

As per the details, four cases have been registered on Lahore-Sialkot motorway for speeding, while 19 FIRs have been registered on Lahore-Islamabad motorway M-2.

Five cases were registered on Lahore-Multan motorway M-3 and six cases were registered on Faisalabad-Multan M-4. Moreover, 20 arrests have been made on Sukkur-Multan motorway M-5, Motorway Police spokesperson said.

The speed ​​limit on 3-lane motorway for light vehicles is 120 km/h and for heavy vehicles is 110 km/h. Exceeding this speed will land drivers in trouble, the spokesperson said.

FINES REVISED UPWARDS

Last year, in September, the government has also revised traffic violation fines, announcing a notable increase, of up to 200 per cent on motorways and national highways.

Overspeeding fine was increased to Rs 2,000. The motorcyclists, cars, and LTV drivers are now subject to Rs 5,000 fine, while driving HTV and PSV will lead to a fine of Rs 10,000.

No relief as petroleum prices stay unchanged despite global shifts

For motorcyclists, cars, and LTV drivers, violation of lanes will be fined Rs 1,000 and for HTV and PSV drivers it will be fined Rs 5,000.

Moreover, fine for wrong overtaking is Rs 300, and for HID lights it is Rs 2000.
