Another rain spell predicted from tomorrow – HUM News


LAHORE: Another spell of heavy rains across most districts of the Punjab and Sindh has been predicted from tomorrow until September 10.

According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), rainfall is expected tomorrow in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Gujrat, and Sialkot from tomorrow (September 6), while Narowal, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Okara, and Sahiwal are also likely to receive showers.

The PDMA further stated that Gujranwala, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mandi Bahauddin are also expected to witness rainfall. Similarly, rain is likely in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Mianwali, and Rajanpur.

The authority has cautioned that from September 7 to 9, hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan may trigger flash floods.

Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been directed to remain on high alert to ensure timely action in case of emergencies.

Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said rivers Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej are already experiencing flooding, while streams and drains in major cities could overflow due to the heavy downpours. Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures.

Meanwhile Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain in Islamabad between September 6 and 8.

HEAVY RAINS ACROSS SINDH

The PMD has forecast intermittent heavy rains across Sindh between September 7 and 10, warning of possible urban flooding in Karachi and other cities.

According to the PMD, a low-pressure system over India’s Madhya Pradesh is likely to move towards Rajasthan and reach parts of Sindh by September 6. Strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate Sindh and eastern Punjab under this system.

Rain is expected in Tharparkar, Mithi, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chachro, Diplo, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kashmore, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki and Karachi.

The department cautioned that heavy downpours could submerge low-lying areas in Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal and Hyderabad.

Several districts of Balochistan are also likely to receive rainfall.
