ISLAMABAD: In the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) region, the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), is rapidly progressing.
In the initial phase, AMI meters are being installed in Rawalpindi City and Rawalpindi Cantt circles.
IESCO aims to install 1.2 million AMI meters by June 2026. The meters are being prioritized on high-loss feeders and industrial zones to improve power efficiency.
These smart meters will support net metering connections and allow automated, remote readings without the need for manual meter readers.

This shift is expected to reduce overbilling issues and delays in bill distribution.
The system also aims to prevent overloading, reducing the chances of transformers and meters burning out. Consumers can monitor their electricity usage in real-time, helping them reduce their bills. For those who fail to pay their bills, connections can be automatically disconnected digitally.
IESCO anticipates that this technology will reduce line losses and increase revenue. Customers will benefit from timely and high-quality services in line with modern demands.
