LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has granted bail to Shahriz Khan, son of Aleema Khan, in the Jinnah House attack case.
Shahrez Khan, Imran Khan’s nephew and Aleema Khan’s son, had been arrested in connection with the May 9 cases.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill had earlier reserved the verdict on the post-arrest bail plea of Shahriz Khan. The court announced the verdict on Wednesday, approving the bail application and ordering Shahriz’s release.
During the hearing, Shahriz’s counsel, Rana Mudassir Umar, argued that his client was accused of inciting workers, but investigations — including geofencing of all individuals linked to the case — had found no evidence against him.
The lawyer said the charge sheet clearly named unknown suspects, but Shahriz’s name was not mentioned anywhere, nor had any investigating officer given a statement against him.
Second son of Aleema Khan also arrested
He further argued that Shahriz was arrested 28 months after the incident in an attempt to pressure his mother, Aleema Khan, who has been campaigning for her brother and PTI founder Imran Khan’s release.
Rana Mudassir told the court that Shahriz was in Chitral between May 6 and 12, with affidavits from witnesses confirming his presence there.
He added that Shahriz is an Oxford student and an athlete, due to travel abroad for an event.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, Aleema Khan alleged that four armed men had abducted her son Shahriz.
Later, police confirmed his arrest, saying he was taken into custody in connection with cases registered over the May 9, 2023 unrest.
Meanwhile, Aleema Khan’s lawyer also claimed that her other son, Sher Shah Khan, was arrested when he appeared at the ATC for his brother’s hearing on Tuesday.
