Why Aamir Khan’s son Junaid wasn’t appeared in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Laapataa Ladies’?
- Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, made his acting debut in a Hindi film with “Maharaj” last year.
- Khan recalled testing for the role with Kiran Rao, who was set to play his mother.
- Despite the cost, Khan agreed with her choice.
Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, made his acting debut in the Hindi film industry last year with Yash Raj Films’ “Maharaj”. While he is currently preparing for his next project, “Loveyapa” with Khushi Kapoor, the young actor recently opened up about losing the opportunity to star in his father’s home production films, “Laapataa Ladies” and “Laal Singh Chaddha”, before making his actual debut.
In a recent conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Junaid Khan revealed that he was initially supposed to be a part of his father Aamir Khan-led “Laal Singh Chaddha”. He recalled testing for the role with Kiran Rao, who was set to play his mother. Khan shared that they filmed 7–8 scenes over four days, resulting in 20 minutes of footage.
“It was a test for me also. Papa wanted to see how Advait would deal with the material. So, it was kind of a deal for both of us. Ultimately, it didn’t work out, largely due to budgetary reasons. It was a very expensive film to put a new person in,” he said.
Reflecting further on his stint in “Laapataa Ladies”, Junaid Khan revealed that he also tested for the film. However, Kiran Rao ultimately chose Sparsh Shrivastava, whom she felt was better suited for the part. Junaid expressed no qualms about the decision and agreed with her choice.
Despite not being cast, Junaid emphasized that the decision didn’t affect his relationship with Kiran. He said, “Our equation is very good. She is a very fun and warm person, and we get along great.”
Advait Chandan directed the 2022-released film ”Laal Singh Chaddha”, a remake of the 1994 American classic “Forrest Gump”, which starred Tom Hanks. The film featured Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, Naga Chaitanya, and Manav Vij in key roles.
“Laapataa Ladies”, released in 2023, starred Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Ravi Kishan. The critically acclaimed film was also India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2025.
On the professional front, Junaid will next appear in the rom-com “Loveyapa” alongside Khushi Kapoor. Directed by Advait Chandan, the film is set to release on February 7, 2025.
