Late filmmaker Ravi Chopra’s wife and producer, Renu Chopra, recently lauded Shah Rukh Khan’s generosity in an interview. She recalled how Shah Rukh Khan supported her son Abhay Chopra’s directorial debut, Ittefaq, when she lacked the financial resources to produce it, refusing even to charge interest on the investment.
Chopra recounted how she initially reached out to Shah Rukh, requesting a meeting. Instead, SRK insisted on coming to see her out of respect. However, after three weeks without a visit, she decided to take the initiative.
Detailing their conversation, she shared, “Maine kaha, ‘Dekh, paise mere paas nahi hai,’ toh he said, ‘Woh main laga dunga.’ Maine kaha, ‘Baki mere bacche puri tarah se dil laga ke picture banaenge’” (I said, ‘I don’t have money,’ to which he replied, ‘I’ll put in the money.’ I told him that my son would make the movie with his heart).
SRK’s trust in Abhay was unwavering. “Unhone kahani bhi shayad padi nahi. His principle was, ‘I never back the horse; I back the jockey,’” she revealed. Even after the film’s completion, he refused to take interest, saying, “Nahi, ye haraam hai mere liye. Main nahi lunga” (No, this is forbidden for me. I won’t take it).
Ittefaq (2017) starred Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna, and Sonakshi Sinha, earning ₹51.47 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, SRK is set to appear in King, directed by Siddharth Anand, promising an entertaining experience for fans.
