Indian singer Udit Narayan has responded to the controversy surrounding a viral video in which he is seen kissing a fan during a live concert.
The clip, which resurfaced online months after his US-Canada tour, shows a female admirer approaching him for a selfie and pecking him on the cheek, after which Narayan seemingly reciprocates with a kiss on the lips.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Narayan dismissed the controversy, defending his actions. “Why would I do something now, at this stage of my life when I have achieved it all?” he questioned. “There is a deep, pure, and unbreakable bond between my fans and me. They love me. I love them back even more.”
The 68-year-old singer rejected any suggestion of wrongdoing, stating, “Do you hear any regret or sorrow in my voice? In fact, I am laughing as I talk to you. My heart is pure. If some people want to see something dirty in my act of pure affection, then I feel sorry for them.”
Narayan also alleged that the video was released with malicious intent, asserting, “The more they try to pull me down, the more I will rise in retaliation.”
