Tamil cinema icon Vijay Thalapathy recently hosted an Iftar gathering in Chennai, but the event has now sparked controversy. According to an Indian media report, the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath has filed a complaint against the actor at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, alleging that the event was disrespectful to the Muslim community.
The organization’s treasurer, Syed Kous, addressed the media regarding the complaint and expressed dissatisfaction over the event’s proceedings. “Muslims were insulted at the Iftar program organised by Vijay. We believe the participation of drunkards and rowdies who had nothing to do with fasting or Iftar has insulted Muslims,” he reportedly stated.
Kous further alleged that the event was conducted in an inappropriate manner and criticized Vijay for not issuing an apology. He claimed that the arrangements were inadequate and accused Vijay’s security personnel of mistreating attendees. “Legal action should be taken against Vijay to ensure this does not happen again. We did not file a complaint for publicity,” he added.
The Iftar gathering took place on Friday at the Royapettah YMCA grounds. Vijay, dressed in a skull cap, actively participated in prayers before breaking his fast and sharing a meal with attendees. Numerous photos and videos from the event quickly circulated on social media.
On the professional front, Vijay was last seen in Venkat Prabhu’s 2024 film The GOAT and is currently filming Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. The movie, which stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol, is set to be his final film before he transitions into politics.
Vijay has confirmed that he will not sign any new projects as he prepares to contest the 2026 elections under his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which he launched last year.
