Rajkummar Rao unveiled the teaser for his upcoming movie Bhool Chuk Maaf on Tuesday, and fans quickly noticed his continued portrayal of the “small-town guy desperate to marry” archetype. In the film, he plays a young man from Banaras eager about his wedding plans, echoing similar roles he has taken on in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Waala Video, Stree 2, Hum Do Humare Do, and Roohi.
Comedian Akshat, known for his viral Instagram videos, humorously pointed out Rao’s pattern. He joked, “India had not had any tier 2 cities for a long time, but they were brought back so Rajkummar, whom he called the best actor in the country, could have a career.” He continued, “Two-tier city mein ek ladka jise shaadi karni hai, eklauti kahani hai sunane ke liye (A guy from a tier-2 city wanting to get married is the only story we have now).”
Viewers echoed Akshat’s sentiments. One comment read, “I hate to see Rajkummar being typecast in the same type of comedy movies, he has much more potential than this.” Another joked, “After Citylights, Rajkummar decided never to go to big cities again.”
Directed by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf is produced by Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios. Besides this film, Rao is also set to star in Maalik, slated for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
