Actress Nayanthara has opened up about her recent open letter addressing former co-star and producer Dhanush, following his lawsuit over the use of a clip from his 2015 production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, she explained her decision to speak out.
“Courage only comes from the truth. I only have to be scared when I’m fabricating something. If I’m not doing that, I don’t have to be scared,” she said. “Why should I be scared of doing something which I feel is right? I should be scared only if I’m doing something wrong.”
She denied allegations that her open letter was a publicity stunt, asserting that the documentary is not about commercial success but about revealing a personal journey.
Nayanthara clarified her intent to use just “four lines which summed up our life, our love, our kids” from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film directed by her husband, Vignesh Shivan.
The actor revealed she reached out to Dhanush’s manager to discuss the matter, seeking to clear the air after a decade of estrangement. Despite her attempts, Nayanthara said the situation escalated unfairly, prompting her open letter.
