Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has reportedly come under scrutiny in United Kingdom after performing in a music video featuring Indian singer Yo Yo Honey Singh.
The video, titled “Jatt Mekhma,” was released in November 2024 and was shot in the UK. The four-minute-long music video has garnered over 40 million views on YouTube.
However, more than seven months after its release, the video drew criticism when viewers pointed out a controversial ending scene.
In this scene, Mehwish is depicted firing a group of people with fake automatic weapons and shotguns alongside four young children, which many found inappropriate and sensitive.
Following this, social media users and some media outlets reported that UK authorities might consider banning Mehwish Hayat’s entry in U.K.
Legal complaint against Mehwish Hayat:
Member of Parliament expressed concerns over the video and formally lodged a complaint with the UK Home Office. She stated, “Showing children with fake weapons engaging in violence is not only irresponsible but could also violate UK laws concerning child protection.”
She further added that she has requested the Home Office to consider barring Mehwish Hayat and Yo Yo Honey Singh from entering the UK, especially since the video was shot in Stratford-upon-Avon a residential area.
According to some UK media reports, the Home Office is considering issuing “exclusion orders” against both artists, which could prohibit their entry into the country. Such orders can be enforced without a court hearing, particularly if their presence is deemed against public interest.
At present, neither the UK Home Office nor relevant authorities have issued any official statement regarding the matter. Yo Yo Honey Singh has not responded publicly.
Mehwish denied on banned from UK and dismissed the reports as baseless. She previously shared a statement condemning the false news and urged media outlets to report responsibly.
Meanwhile, Mehwish’s media manager, Rohail, told the press that neither the British High Commission nor any other authority has issued any notice or complaint against her.
