Actress Manisha Koirala has shared her emotional journey of battling ovarian cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2012.
In a recent interview with news agency ANI, the actress recalled the dark moments when she first learned about her condition. “When I was diagnosed in Nepal, I was very fearful, obviously, like everybody else, extremely,” she said. Manisha also revealed the overwhelming sense of dread she felt when she spoke with the doctors at Jaslok Hospital. “I felt I was going to die. And I felt this was the end of me,” she added.
The actress, however, found a renewed sense of purpose through her recovery. “If I got a second chance at life, I had to go and fix the score because life gave me so much,” Manisha explained. She confessed that she felt responsible for the disappointments in her career, particularly for “doing bad films” and disappointing her fans. “I prayed that if I got a second chance, I really wanted to do the best that I could and not disappoint my fans.”
Manisha underwent surgery in New York, where she stayed for several months. She credited a Rudraksha from Nepal, given to her doctor by her mother, for aiding in her recovery. “After 11 hours of operation, he said, ‘This mala has done wonders,’” she revealed.
Manisha’s last project was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web show Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, where she starred alongside Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and others.
