Colman Domingo shares his efforts of becoming Joe Jackson in Michael Jackson Biopic

Colman Domingo is fully committed to his work, and willing to do whatever his character demands. The actor discussed his transformation into Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson’s father, in the biopic “Michael”, directed by Antoine Fuqua.
In his interview, Domingo stated that he doesn’t resemble himself in the upcoming film. He shared that he underwent a complete transformation, including lightening his skin to match Joe Jackson’s fair complexion.
The actor revealed that prosthetics were applied above his eye and on his nose to achieve the look. The “Madness” actor explained, “We leaned into the different periods of Joe, where he was younger, slicker, and more focused on the hustle.”
Domingo continued by saying that when Joe started developing his “little pooch,” the actor made sure to replicate it. He added, “And the pants were riding right underneath, like all the men I know who wear their bellies proud.”
The Jackson family patriarch, who passed away at the age of 89 in 2018, was also one of the most well-known members of the Jackson family. According to *Entertainment Weekly*, some of his children also accused him of serious abuse.
In a previous conversation with the aforementioned publication, Domingo explained why he wanted to take on the role. He shared that he decided to play it because he knows that public opinions about him often conflict with what his family or those who know him believe or think.
The actor added that it is very “complicated.” He also expressed his desire to understand Joe and discover what made him “tick” and how he ended up creating such an incredible artist. According to Domingo, it was due to Joe, his actions, and the “impact” he had.
The “Rustin” star also said, “Whether good, bad, or ugly, I’m not sure,” adding, “But I know I’m curious to find out, and I want to discover what’s underneath the hat, the earrings, and the gold chains.”
“Michael” is set to be released on October 3, 2025.
