Anthony Mackie, best known for portraying Sam Wilson (formerly The Falcon) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is set to debut as Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, releasing on February 14, 2025. Notably, Mackie’s Captain America will be the first without the Super Soldier Serum, presenting a fresh take on the iconic character.
At the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Mackie revealed the moment he learned about his casting. “I found out while watching a football game at Chris Evans’ house,” he said. “When I read it, we just hugged each other and jumped around in a circle.”
Explaining Sam Wilson’s evolution, Mackie shared, “Sam’s evolution is simple. He’s still a counselor. He’s still serving soldiers, but at the same time, now he’s a leader of his community in the country. It’s very different with the serum — you can fight anybody. When you don’t have the serum, you have to be smart and engineer different ways of defeating [enemies].”
Mackie also praised his Wakandan-designed Captain America suit, saying, “It’s a high-tech suit. I can kick harder, I can fly faster, and it gives me the ability to be more agile in my skills.”
When asked about his favorite superhero, Mackie revealed, “My favorite character of all time is the Incredible Hulk. I’ve always been a Hulk fan.”
With Brave New World, Mackie promises a grounded, espionage-driven story, staying true to the original Captain America films while carving a unique path for Sam Wilson.
