Fine charged over not wearing helmet

Web Desk: The Punjab Traffic Police has ramped up its enforcement efforts this month, issuing fines exceeding Rs. 120 million to more than 60,000 individuals for violations such as not wearing helmets or seat belts.

A spokesperson highlighted that this campaign aligns with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision that “traffic law compliance is a shared responsibility,” emphasizing that the primary goal is to safeguard lives rather than generate revenue.

In June alone, more than 60,000 motorcyclists across Punjab were fined for riding without helmets, with Lahore accounting for over Rs. 15 million in penalties from such violations.

Furthermore, over 14,600 drivers have been fined for not wearing seat belts while operating their vehicles.

Additional IG Traffic Mirza Farhan Baig reiterated that the enforcement is driven by a commitment to road safety, not revenue, urging all passengers to use seat belts and adhere to traffic rules.

The Punjab Traffic Police confirmed that these operations will continue across the province, with stricter measures in place to promote compliance and enhance road safety.
