Pakistan’s economy hit hard as flood damages exceed Rs822b – BOL News


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s economy has suffered massive losses amounting to Rs822 billion as a result of the recent devastating floods, which have affected more than 6.5 million people across 70 districts of the country.

According to official documents from the Ministry of Planning and the Economic Affairs Division, the agriculture and infrastructure sectors are among the hardest hit by the disaster.

The report notes that Pakistan is facing one of the most severe monsoon floods in its history, causing extensive destruction to infrastructure, livelihoods, and essential services.

Initial estimates had placed total damages at Rs744 billion, but the figure has now surged to Rs822 billion following further assessments.

As per the report, the floods damaged 229,763 houses, including 59,258 completely destroyed and 170,505 partially damaged. The calamity also resulted in 1,037 deaths and 1,067 injuries across the affected regions.
