The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to bring 2.8 million potential households into the tax net, sources revealed on Tuesday. This move is expected to boost the national economy by approximately Rs1.6 trillion.
FBR spokesperson Bakhtiar Muhammad stated that while there are around 3.5 million individuals eligible to pay taxes in the country, 2.8 million of them are still not contributing. The FBR aims to address this gap with their new initiative.
The FBR made significant progress in a major sales tax evasion case in a separate development. The Sindh High Court dismissed the plea to quash an FIR against Millat Industrial Products Limited and its chairman, accused of being involved in alleged sales tax fraud.
